Do you want to get your team down as one of the last groups to play hockey on grass in a major tournament?
This could be your last chance to do it – Poverty Bay is the last region in New Zealand to have an artificial playing surface and plans are going well for a world-class turf facility to be built in Gisborne next year. This means grass tournaments will be a thing of the past.
For Gisborne, these tournaments have not happened regularly -so this really will be the last chance! 26 years have gone by since Gisborne last hosted such a large tournament. The men's national hockey tournament was played in Gisborne in 1985 on Harry Barker Reserve. The pitch is renowned for its even flat surface and as a result has held many international games on its number one pitch.
Poverty Bay is also known for its hospitality in hosting these events. Hospitality is what makes us stand out from the crowd and this is what will continue in Poverty Bay. We look forward to hosting you for the Last on Grass tournament and your last chance to play on grass in New Zealand. Harry Barker Reserve is gifted with 9 pristine grass fields. No skin lost here!
Don't miss out on this opportunity to play in this fun tournament and celebrate an era gone by, as Poverty Bay moves into a new phase of hockey with the development of their first turf.
